Podcast #5
February's assignment is again due on the last day of the month. This month you need to create a vodcast. This means you will incorporate video into your podcast. Same techniques as you did with your enhanced podcasts but now you will have to use the camcorder and incorporate some video footage. If you need help, let me know. Topic is wide open.
Post topic and reflect on the use of video with podcasting.

I produced a video for my incoming AVID freshman next year-basically a 'walking' tour of the school. I think it turned out pretty well. Some of the problems I had:
1. I created the video using a digital camera w/ a hard drive within it. In order to get the footage off, I needed a special program for it (I currently own a copy of it for my G5 at home).
2. After downloading the footage and editing it, I learned that some of the transitions and titles weren't compatible w/ the PC. I had to 'compress' the video w/ the program I used to create it (iMovie). After that, it worked pretty well. Christine showed me how to get the kids logged on and download it. I still haven't been able to get it onto the iPod though. More on this later....
We created a Vodcast to encourage students and parents to participate in an exchange program to Mexico City with us. The theme is based on diversity in our country today and the need to have insight in other languages and cultures. The students who are traveling with us this year made the video recording of the ELA class diversity at Grandview. I will load this onto my school blog and our blog for the exchange. Time consumption is great when transposing video to digital form. The results are great however!

I video taped our guest ball python Kaa eating his lunch which was a white female mouse. The snake will be going home to the family that had brought him in so I thought it would be a cool thing to capture and share with the students who haven't been able to see him eat yet. I know a lot of people will think it is gross and disgusting but it's the circle of life!
I wish I had used a tripod to tape it but filming this event wasn't planned so the footage is shaky.
Capturing the video footage digitally from the cassette took a while but it was easy to manipulate once I brought it into MovieMaker. I'm glad I did this because it really isn't hard at all!
