This group of teachers will be trained to use and create podcasts in their classrooms. Our experience throughout the year will be reflected upon in this blog.

Time to share. Schedule a time in your next department meeting to share what a podcast is and how you can use it in your classroom. Post when this is done and the department members reactions. Please also let them know that if they are interested in doing this they just need to talk with me.
Curt Says: Way back in October during colab time I gave a demo of my first 3 podcasts to me entire department. We discussed possible applications in Language instruction and available podcast already out there for the using. I gave a brief intro to Audacity and walked them through the steps of creating a podcast. They were interested but overwhelmed at the time commitment to learn how to make their own.
In October I gave a department demo during colab time. All were impressed with the possible applications in language. We went over the creation process and the abilities of the Audacity program. They wished for more time to dedicate to learning how to use Podcasts in class.
In October I gave a demo during Colab to my entire department. We listented to my first three podcasts with songs, lyrics and accompanying comprehension questions. All were excited about the potential podcasting holds for language teachers but frighted and overwhelmed by the prospect of dedicating time to experiment and learn
I shared the different uses of podcasting kind of informally at a department meeting and it created a pretty big buzz with many of the teachers. It is exciting to see teachers get excited about what is out there. Since, I have had a couple of teachers come and ask me how I use podcasts in my classroom.
When I shared about Podcasting to my department, there was a lot of excitement generated around it. Some ideas that were generated were doing some lit analysis with kids and doing some readers theater stuff. Of course, there are those who are skeptical, but I reall think that them more people see this technology used in real ways, the more they will see it's relevance in the classroom.
I discussed my use of podcasts at one of our meetings [a while ago!]. A few people thought it was cool and could see how they help kids prepare for exams [that is how I use them] but nobody was interested enough to ask further questions. I assured them a basic audio podcast is easy but still nobody has tried one. Perry T. did photocopy my podcast direction sheets...so maybe he will make a podcast one day?!
